About Us

Trent Powerboat and Ski Club was formed in 1965 and has been promoting the sport of water-skiing and associated sports since.

The club operates on 3 stretches of water along the River Trent in Nottinghamshire, with a British Waterways licence to enable boats to use the ski zones for the purpose of powerboating and water-skiing activities.

The club operates at Gunthorpe, Hazelford-Hoveringham and Farndon. This collectively offers over 7 miles of inviting flat and smooth water to be able to water -ski and even barefoot nearly all year round.

Ski zones are highlighted in yellow.

Gunthorpe Ski Zone

This is probably the most popular zone within the club with the launching slipway and landing stage in front of the Unicorn public house, on the North Bank.

The land which is identified as a water-ski zone is owned by the club and is managed by its members. There is a landing stage and picnic area for members and is very popular for both members and viewers.

This zone which is approx. 1.3miles long and identified by British Waterways signs on the riverbank, is shared with other water users and fishermen.

When skiing from the landing stage the club operates an anticlockwise circuit and careful looking out for other craft and fishing lines.

Rules for skiing on this section are explained during any membership inductions.

There are no rights to land on any bank other than TPSC landing stage.

Emergency contacts are via mobile phone or the Unicorn Public House or Tom Brown’s restaurant.

Hoveringham-Hazelford Ski Zone

This is possibly the best piece of flat water for water-skiing almost anywhere in the UK, despite having to access the zone through a lock from Gunthorpe, or a slow drive from Farndon Ski Zone.

There is a public launch facility at Hazelford but limited parking and nowhere to turn around a boat and trailer so it’s almost a non-starter to try. A great stretch of water where the current club president did a barefoot ski run the full stretch of the zone in 5 minutes and 34 seconds!

There is no landing stage, so skiing is from the boat and there is a landing area at Bark’s Beach on the South Bank.

Farndon Ski Zone

This Ski Zone, unlike the other 2 zones, is accessed from the South Bank through a launch site at Farndon Marina where we have a members’ facility to launch and retrieve.

The Zone is 2.5 miles long, a little twisty, but great relaxing flat water.

Launching is easy with a good wide slipway within the harbour, and the landing stage, which is owned by the club is approx. halfway down the Zone on the left side at what used to be a petrol station.

This is a great picnic area and has plenty of room for relaxing. There is a road access to the landing stage through the garage forecourt off the A 46 old road.
